Mamdani later revealed to Spectrum News NY1 that he'd held a subsequent discussion with Trump centered on affordable housing development in New York City.
Sources indicate the mayor may be working to preserve a functional relationship with the president to prevent potential federal funding cuts or the deployment of National Guard forces to the city—measures Trump has previously threatened.
Neither spokesperson from Trump's administration nor Mamdani's office has issued official statements about the continuing communications.
